Thesarus brings message of hope on ‘Konqueror’

Dancehall artiste Thesarus has been gaining traction in the streets with his latest release, Konqueror, which salutes his inner-city Franklyn Town, Kingston origins, while conveying a message of hope and perseverance in the face of insurmountable odds.

" Konqueror is coming from a place of hope and wanting to elevate and achieve better. After a while, you outgrow your surroundings and people you've known all your life. The world is too big to limit yourself to just a handful of people. Everyone has their own struggles, but with faith and a strong mind, you eventually become a conqueror," Thesarus said.

Grimy visuals for the song were released earlier this month, racking up more than 273,000 views. The song is also generating major impressions and reshares on TikTok, where it has caught the imagination of users who are seeking to rebuild their lives in the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa.

"The impact of Konqueror was predetermined. The beat itself is giving [a sense of] triumph and a sense of overcoming and that's the type of music people need in trying times like these. That's why Konqueror is spelt with a 'K' and not 'C'. The letter K represents strength and resilience," Thesarus said.

The artiste said that he is happy to be a beacon of light in a dark age of the island's history.

"The video has touched a nerve with lots of people because of the underlying message. Patience is a virtue, giving up is way easier than trying again with no surety of success, but starting all over creates and shows passion and commitment. So be patient with yourself and dreams," Thesarus said.
