The remains of a common-law couple were discovered at a house in Mansfield Heights in Ocho Rios, St Ann, in a decomposed state yesterday morning.

According to police reports, some time after 7 o'clock Friday morning, residents smelt fowl odour coming from a house, and upon checks, the partially decomposed bodies were found on a bed.

The male, who is believed to be in his 30s, has been identified as Aldin Smith of a Mansfield Heights address, while the female has been identified as 25-year-old Vanessa Murray of Breadnut Hill.

"The scene was processed by the police, and we would categorise what we have seen there as a case of double murder," Superintendent Gary Francis, who heads the St Ann Police Division, told THE STAR.

He said that the state of decomposition has made it difficult for the police to determine what caused the wounds.

"But from experience, it would appear that they are gunshot wounds," Francis said.

The St. Ann police are investigation.
