A member of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) was shot and killed by gunmen on Tuesday night in Lemon Ridge, Banbury, Linstead, St Catherine.

Dead is David Howard, 30, otherwise called Speedy.

According to reports, Howard drove in the area to drop off his sister and brother-in-law at their home.

While leaving the community, he saw two female friends and decided to stop and talk to them.

But shortly after he exited his vehicle and entered the premises where they were, a man armed with a gun, ordered them to hand over their phones, and to go inside the house.

A tussle ensued and Howard was able to disarm the assailant. However, a second gunman who came on the scene shot Howard in his hip and upper body. He died on the spot.

The men, suspected of being on a robbing spree in the area, also tied up the occupants of another house, then made their escape on foot in the area.
