Senior cop commits suicide

Senior Superintendent of Police Dermot Lawrence is believed to have committed suicide at his home in Mango Walk Boulevard, St. James on Friday, July 20.

Lawrence, who was in charge of administration at the Area One headquarters in Montego Bay, was found hanging by a piece of rope from the ceiling of his house shortly after 7.30 p.m.

It is reported that a close friend of the cop went to Lawrence's home in Mango Walk and discovered his dangling body.

His death came one day after he reportedly accidentally fired his weapon at his home.  

Commissioner of Police Major Anthony Anderson has offered condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the Lawrence

Comissioner Anderson has disclosed that the JCF Chaplaincy Unit and the Community Safety and Security Branch have been directed to provide support to the family and collegues with whom he worked daily.
