Businessman killed near St Mary home
A 45-year-old businessman was killed by a man near his house in the Charles Town area on Sunday.
Head of the St Mary Police Division Superintendent Bobette Morgan yesterday confirmed that Wayne Williams was raking up a property adjacent to his house about 11 a.m. when two loud explosions were heard. A man was seen shortly after entering the house of the businessman where he reportedly held Williams' common-law wife at gunpoint and demanded Williams' licensed firearm.
The woman was allegedly roughed up by the lone gunman and she reportedly handed over the gun to the culprit. The woman also reported that after the man left, she heard another explosion outside the house. The police were called in and upon their arrival, the shirtless body of the businessman was seen lying on its side clad in a black shorts with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the head.
The police also said that the suspect is believed to be about 5' 7" tall, of slim build and appears to have also altered his colour by way of skin bleaching. He reportedly made his escape on foot in nearby bushes. Last year, St Mary recorded 27 murders, down from 32 in 2020.
