Major contraband seizure at Negril lock-up
A police investigation is under way to determine how prisoners at the Negril lock-up in Westmoreland came to be in possession of several contraband items including molly pills, knives, and cigarettes.
The discovery was made following a mandatory cell search at the six-celled facility on Monday.
Items found were 21 ecstasy, or molly pills, seven knives, packs of cigarettes, seven SIM cards, 27 cellular phones, 15 phone chargers, 17 earphones, 20 razor blades, 36 lighters, $9,000 cash, a small quantity of ganja and items of jewellery.
An investigation has been undertaken to put plans in place to curtail the illegal activities at facilities located in the resort town.
