More to come - Portmore hitman targets 20-goal season
Having netted his first goal of the season on Sunday, Portmore United's striker Javon East said he is hungry for more, targeting 20 goals in this season's Red Stripe Premier League campaign.
East, who finished second in last year's goalscorers' chart with 15 strikes, netted the opening goal in his team's 2-0 victory over Cavalier at the Stadium East field.
In fact, Sunday's game was the first of the season for East, who is coming off a right-foot bruised ligament injury, which he suffered while on duty with the Reggae Boyz in their 4-0 win over the Cayman Islands in the Concacaf Nations League in September.
East told STAR Sports that he was delighted with his performance against Cavalier and underlined that he has his eyes set on getting on the scoresheet more often this season compared to the last.
"I am feeling very happy with my performance and I am glad that I am back and getting fit for the international game coming up," said East. "I am happy that I scored my first goal of the season and there is more to come once I put in the hard work, both on and off the field."
The striker believes Sunday's run will help him in regaining his confidence and bringing him closer to full fitness.
"It was a solid performance from me, because I am just coming back from injury and this will definitely help my confidence," East said.
Portmore United, who will be looking to defend their title this season, was recording their second win of the campaign.
East added that the players are very focused and determined to do well this season.
"We are taking it a game at time because we are not thinking about the title as yet, and so we just have to focus on the game in front of us, which is [against] Reno this coming Sunday," said East.
East scored 10 goals in the 2015-2016 season and six in the 2016-2017 campaign before last year's 15-goal tally, which fell one short of Fabian Reid, who topped the goal-scoring chart last season. .
