After a 2020 rookie college season with Florida State University (FSU) which ended in National Championship disappointment, national striker Jody Brown is now celebrating after her college lifted the 2021 football title.

FSU were crowned National Champions Monday night after defeating Brigham Young University (BYU) 4-3 on penalties in the Women's College Cup final after the game finished 0-0 in regulation and extra time. Goalkeeper Cristina Roque made two saves during the shoot-out, giving FSU their third title in programme history and their second in the last four years.

FSU are now tied with Stanford University and the University of Notre Dame for the second-most national championship wins in school history. The University of North Carolina has the most with 21.

Monday's game was a reversal of fortune for FSU and Brown. Brown helped FSU advance to the National Championship game last year in her first college season but the team lost on penalties to Santa Clara University after the game finished tied at 1-1 after extra time.

Brown started the final and came close to providing the winner in normal time as she managed to beat two BYU defenders and make her way into the 18-yard box but her shot was drilled wide. In extra time, she had another chance from close range as she latched on to a rebound from a corner kick but could not make clean contact.

Brown's national title triumph brings to a close a sophomore year which saw her lead the team in assists (10), and her play earned her a place in the All-American Coastal Conference Third Team. Three of her goals this year have come from the College Cup tournament with strikes against Southern Methodist University, South Alabama and Pepperdine University. She has played in 25 games with 23 starts, which has included the entire College Cup tournament run.
