I like this pic ... it has the 'right' people in it. There was a time when the 'right' Jamaica looked like this ... pity it can't come back like that ... too much 3rd World generation people take over the place. Smiley

Jamaica isn't very different from Brazil .. who by the way has some of the biggest issues of racism in the western hemisphere......

majority of jamaica's beauty queen does not represent the majority of Jamaica ....  like wise majority of Brazilian queens don't represent the majority of the country.......

every once in a while it can be OK.. but every year......  well that cant be a fluke can it........ undecided

This conversation is deep, lol. I think only a blinded fool would deny jcas deep issues re race n class, and it overflows in the arena of beauty. In many cases racially mixed girls (and even some guys) tend to have interesting features which may make em attractive. ITs great when MJW is actually beautiful, everyone gets all excited. I think what tick some ppl off is when the trend seem to lean towards one type, and one type only...A girl like dione ellis as striking as she is, could never do well in MJW. Can anyone say if Dionne ellis, the campari model, is related to Nadine Ellis, the model??

Re pics with Kerrie & at the prep school , my issue is that Baylis is in the midst  of controversy re beauty & race, yet  they send her to a pvt upscale school for photo op with mostly lightskinned privilidged jcan kids. Terri Karelle for instance was all over the country, in poor communities, going to schools where children were needy.  I can also understand why some may be offended that it would seem, white Jamaicans usually win MJW. This is unfortunate, cuz if next year, a stunning white JCAN enter MJW, it might be difficult for the judges to choose her. And whats up with some of thes MJW mothers, many live out their own dreams through their beauty queen daughters. I notice Kerries Mom was right there at Jamaica House meeting PM GOlding, chances are she knows him personally LOL, but why was she there, when Terri Karelle was chaperone?  BTW, isnt terri a trained vet with her doctorate? Why is she managing SPartan? LOL...seems like an odd career move, unless she feel theyre a bunch of strange animals down there...LOL...btw TNT looks like an overdone drag queen on Global. Im just sayin..lol

THE SUPER BEAUTY DIONNE ELLIS IS MORE SUITED FOR MISS UNIVERSE.THATS WHERE HER EDGINESS WOULD COME IN HANDY....PAULA SHUGGARTH PREFERS THE EDGY,MODEL TYPE GIRLS..........AND AM SURE IF DIONNE WORK ON THAT LUSCIOUS BODY SHE COULD BE AN EYE TURNER AT MISS UNIVERSE. Smiley

I doubt there was any racism involved in the photo shoot. Hopefield Prep as stated before, simply is a school with children of predominantly middle-class families of every ethnicity. A matter of fact, they probably have more indian students than  anything else. People tend to send their children to schools their friends and families can recommend. Hence, if you are chinie and your chinie cousin sent her children to X school, you would probably end up sending your child there if they have good things to say. Etc etc etc

Personally, I think its great to have schools where every race is well represented.

It is clear that only people with identity issues, due to their race, make issues out of race. Does it mean that you think your caucasian friends are better than you?

When will people just learn to be confident and not assume that they are less, even when no one said they were? Granted, those with the issues they are stating may have had different experiences. Why? Maybe it is the mindset they were brought up with and have continued to cultivate throughout adulthood.

my dear friend ass press................kiss my azz...............the only identity i need is jamaican and do not need anybody to tell me i have an identity problem based on race............of course the uptown light skinned ppl on this part of the board are pretty much oblivious to what i have said because they see ppl like themselves and for the most part accept the pic because that is the image they see every day, a depiction of a typical uptown school with its mix of jamaicans of all ethnicities and skin shade, with a predominance towards the lighter skinned kids, my point is, whomever set these kids into the pic, wants the school to be identified as a haven for the lighter skinned bright eyed folks, thusly, that person or persons is the one with the identity problem because they have failed to acknowledge the diversity of their student population and essentially attempted to impose upon the public, their skewed view of the jamaican populace

True, but like most of Jamaica, mosty of Brazil do not believe they have a racial problem. About 50% of Brazil is descended from Africans but only 1% of Brazil's parliament is Black. There are less than five Senators and Deputies COMBINED!!!!! That is crazy!!

How often do you see a Black beauty queen?? How often do you see a Mixed beauty queen? Probably the only time you see a reflection of Brazil is the soccer team or the volleyball team.. no other place. Jamaica is not the only place sold the lie.. out of many one people!!!! Brazilians are so ashamed of their Blackness, that probably about a 1/4 of the ones that call themselves White, would be considered Black/Mixed by the standards of any other country.

Chris Ramdeen is a good friend of mine -- left the bank years ago and doing his business, small but it mek him eat a food. I don't even know what became of Lawrence and I don't know if dem still going upstairs to play domino, LOL. Like you, my sojourn there was short -- less than five years.  Still, is Tower Street me did based -- and then New Kingston -- although every now and then they pulled me to work at HWT. Hated it.

I do notice that the darker ones are away from her, Associated. At least this is the case in the sitting picture. It could be intentional, maybe, maybe not, but nowadays too many people are quick to find some racism in everything. First it was the matter of too many brown women in our pageants. Then it became a mindset by SOME, "Let's only pick dark girls, because they're the only true representatives of Jamaica." Then it was the fact that Baylis is white. Now it is this matter. Some people need to find a problem with everything. A mole, a square inch of cellulite, a tiny piece of "chap farid"  Grin. Whatever. But maybe you ARE right, Associated. Those with identity issues and feelings of inferiority will probably be the first ones to make an issue out of race. They are just hunting for something that could possibly, potentially or probably be labeled as unjust.

Grin Mek me come off dis place for a good while so I can go focus pon mi tings elsewhere yah. Too many disgruntled people.  Grin Grin Adieu.
