Ellis reportedly attempted suicide after allegedly raping and murdering the child who was a student at the Discovery Bay Primary and Infant School on September 23.

Following a daring escape from police custody, Troy Ellis, the man implicated in the rape and murder of eight-year-old Talia Thompson, has been recaptured.

The 27-year-old was handed over to the Discovery Bay Police about 10:35 p.m. on Sunday night by a female licensed firearm holder.

It is reported that Ellis was apprehended after the woman spotted him while driving along the Discovery Bay main road in St Ann. She identified him as the man matching a description released by the police.

The escapee, who has been formally charged with rape and murder, was being held at the St Ann's Bay Hospital, where he was being treated for several serious wounds to his face and upper body.

It is reported the wounds resulted from a suicide attempt following the murder of the eight-year-old child, who was a student at the Discovery Bay Primary and Infant School.

The police say the Inspectorate and Professional Standard Oversight Bureau of the force is investigating the circumstances surrounding his escape.

The two members of the constabulary force who were on guard at the time of the escape have been removed from frontline duties.
