Windies surrender series after rain forces wash-out
FORT LAUDERDALE (CMC):
Rain has forced the abandonment of the second Twenty20 International here yesterday, handing India victory by 22 runs under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method.
Lightning and then rain sent players from the field at the Central Broward County Stadium at 1:40 p.m. with the Caribbean side on 98 for four in the 16th over, still requiring 70 runs to win from 27 balls.
However, the rain never relented, and when the contest was called off, West Indies were well short of the par score of 120.
Kieron Pollard was unbeaten on eight and Shimron Hetmyer on six.
Rovman Powell top-scored with an entertaining 54 from 34 deliveries, striking half a dozen fours and three sixes in a 76-run third-wicket stand with Nicholas Pooran (19) after West Indies had slumped to eight for two in the third over.
India had earlier made 167 for five off their 20 overs after opener Rohit Sharma stroked 67 off 51 deliveries.
India have now clinched the three-match series after winning Saturday's opening by four wickets at the same venue.
