October 02, 2025

Pay a fine of $280,000 or spend 14 days in prison. That was the sentence handed down to a St Catherine man who crashed into two vehicles and fled the scene when he appeared in court on Wednesday.

Donovan Benson, of a Spanish Town address, pleaded guilty to charges of dangerous driving, driving without a licence, no insurance coverage, and leaving the scene of an accident.

The sentence was delivered by Senior Parish Court Judge Janelle Nelson-Gayle.

Reports are that on Saturday, September 13, Benson was driving a Nissan AD Wagon when he sped through the intersection of Duncan's Pen Road and the Spanish Town Bypass. The vehicle slammed into two cars before Benson sped away.

He was later intercepted by the police, and during questioning it was revealed that he had no driver's licence and no motor vehicle insurance.

He was arrested and charged.
