Netball World Youth Cup: Another big win for Jamaica
GIBRALTAR (CMC):
Day four of the Netball World Youth Cup 2025 saw the Caribbean nations make their mark, with Jamaica maintaining their perfect record and Trinidad & Tobago (T&T) powering to a decisive first victory against Barbados yesterday.
In a highly competitive clash, Jamaica weathered an early storm from a determined Welsh side to secure a 46-35 win. Wales started brightly, applying intense pressure that disrupted Jamaica's attacking flow.
However, the Jamaicans found their rhythm to edge ahead by the end of the first quarter and never relinquished the lead.
Key defensive disruptions and powerful attacking play in the second half ultimately proved the difference, sealing the win despite Wales's relentless challenge until the final whistle.
The all-Caribbean fixture between T&T and Barbados was a tale of two halves. The match was fiercely contested and tied after an explosive opening quarter.
But T&T soon found another gear, their speed through the midcourt and lightning-fast ball movement allowing them to pull away decisively by half-time.
They maintained their momentum to claim an impressive 58-33 victory, while Barbados continued to contest every possession with grit.
Elsewhere, the tournament heavyweights continued to dominate. Australia showcased their commanding form with a 65-36 win over a spirited Samoa, thanks to tight defence and quick turnovers.
England were in ruthless form, controlling their match against Tonga from the outset to win 72-25. New Zealand closed the day with a statement 80-20 victory over Malaysia.
South Africa also recorded a confident 64-33 win over Malawi, while Singapore rounded out the day's winners, impressing with a 50-32 victory over Northern Ireland.
